Alternative buying platforms
I am the type of guy that walks around the card show literally most of the day, regardless of how big the show is or isn’t.
I’ve always been this kinda guy.
I love to look at the wide array of cards, compare prices, talk to dealers and friends and just get lost in a sea of cardboard and shiny paper.
But lately, I've been spending a considerable amount of time on auction sites during the evenings, sometimes even following folks livestream the close of these auctions on Youtube one after another. Of course, bidding on cards as the evening progresses and listening to the different opinions of these guys right up until the close of the auction.
I’m particularly enamoured with a Canadian company, SlabSharks.com.
Being a hockey hobby lover myself, SlabSharks is a haven for this hobby, showcasing some of the most desired hockey cards in the entire hobby — and making each one available to me and others through their Ebay offerings. I’ve actually snagged a few cool cards on slabsharks.com.
Auctions typically close on Thursday evenings.
My second choice — Alt.
This platform always seems to have a nice array of vintage stuff to go along with the ultra-modern, ultra-shiny and super-sparkling offerings.
I’ve added quite a few cards to the collection via Alt, and did the entire thing from the comforts of my own couch!
Like Slab Sharks, Alt ends its auctions on Thursday evenings.
Fanatics Collects is another site I’ve begun to tinker with, and really enjoy the variety of stuff they have each week, and the variety of price points that are included in each week’s offerings.
I’ve bought cards for $500 on Fanatics Collect and cards for $5 on Fanatics Collect, and felt like I got a pretty good deal on both.
Auctions close Sunday nights.
Listen, to me, nothing is quite as good as an actual real-life card show, whether it’s The National or one at a local VFW hall, but I’ll tell you, these auctions are pretty cool, really fun, and a way better experience that eBay, at least for me anyhow.
